The New Year

Technology began the new year with a huge showing of whats to come at the Computer Electronics Show. This event had new cars, new computers, new hardware, new phones. It was a who’s who of the tech world.

This year though, the most popular booth at CES was the GoPro booth. For those of you that do not know yet, GoPro is a brand that makes versatile and durable hd cameras. This brand used to be extremely niche, left only for the extreme athletes and explorers. GoPro is now branching out to more than just the enthusiasts, they are now a more thought about idea when camera shopping. Imagine having a device that could mount almost anywhere and survive any condition? Sounds nice doesn’t it.

CES is the best way to ring in the new year for any small business. The more people attracted to the booth, the better the sales forecast and attention spent from bloggers like myself. But the best part of CES is meeting the owners and creators. Each booth is like a small shop, you get to see and touch all the new prototypes and projects along with soon to be released products.

With this in mind, be on the look out for my next blog introducing Mobile World Congress!

  1. Hi Joseph! I’m really looking forward to reading your blog because I’m interested in technology but not so much in conferences etc. I can read your posts instead of attending and still get some good information. It would be great if your links were “live” so I could click on them. Sorry, I’m lazy.

  2. I have always wanted to try GoPro. I have heard only but good things about them. I enjoy watching the videos on YouTube of people wearing them and watching their situation unfold. I think that cameras are beginning to play a more important role in everyday life. It’s only a matter of time before we have them almost everywhere. It’s also a matter of time before someone abuses it and uses it for the wrong reason (although we already have that going on right now with people hacking webcams and so on).

      • Well, for an update, a sexual based app was released today and over the weekend a man was interrogated for 4 hours for wearing prescription google glass completely turned off in a theatre. The opposition to it is unreal.

      • You’re a dork Joe! What on earth are you referring to? “Sexual based app?!” lol….yeah, so anyhow…this is a nice set up so far and will keep us hopefully up to date with the latest and greatest gadgets…or not so great gadgets.

      • Yikes. I can already see the trouble they’re going to have with this. I think the negatives outweigh the positives on this one. I am going to assume that they’ll ignore the warning signs and produce something that will shut off the glasses without a question. Kind of like a fail switch or something. It’ll be like those detectors in grocery stores that beep whenever something goes through it that triggers it.

  3. It’s really neat that you brought up GoPro’s. My dad is big into biking and he will take his GoPro and mount it on his bicycle when he does long trips. I’ve also had a teacher who was producing a film, use a GoPro camera that they put inside a cup while beer was being poured over top. Those types of cameras are really good for creating interesting shots. They’re such interesting devices/cameras because you can literally capture anything and it fits in the palm of your hand. I would have loved to have been at a booth to try out prototypes and see new products! Sounds like it would be fun.
